Kick Back for Courtney!
Three people from Gwinnett County were killed in an accident near Stone
Mountain Park on Tuesday, October 13th. Initial news reports from the
Atlanta Journal Constitution said that 6 others had been seriously
injured when the van they were traveling in was struck by a car, and
then flipped over.
According to DeKalb County police, the driver of the white sedan was
changing lanes on Georgia State Highway 78 when he struck the rear
bumper of the van, which then flipped over several times. The van was
full of Georgia Power's employees who were commuting home from work.
The six people who were injured continue to be in a critical condition
at hospitals in Atlanta. DeKalb police have indicated that criminal
charges could be filed against the sedan driver, James Miles.
Hi! My name is Courtney
Singleton. I suppose I have a typical biography of most girls my age. I
am a Georgia native. I graduated high school from Parkview High School
(Go Panthers!) in 2002. In 2006 I graduated from Georgia State with my
B.B.A. in Marketing. Since 2006 I have been happily employed by Georgia
Power.
Before the accident, I had an average but fun filled life. I was
currently commuting from Loganville so that I could take care of my
elder mother (who lives alone). I thoroughly enjoyed working for
Georgia Power! I did the typical activities of a 25 year old girl. I
exercised every single day, in some way or another. I would try to
attend Trinity Fitness on the weekends to get my “Trinity fix” in. I
loved spending my evenings walking my miniature dachshund (Ricky) at
night, just unwinding.

My life has dramatically changed over the past
month. Since the
accident I am immobile, for the most part. I spend my days in a wheel
chair or lying in bed. In the last week, I’ve been able to walk with
the help of a walker. I have two fractured knees, a fracture in the
left occipital lobe of my skull, stitches on my right hand and elbow,
and 15 staples in my head. All of my physical changes seem minor to the
long lasting effects from my brain injury. I however do attempt to stay
positive every day. I thank God that I am alive and I take every day
open and thankfully.
You might have heard of a Walk-A-Thon, where you earn money from your
sponsors for walking a set number of miles. At Trinity, we specialize
in kickboxing and we wanted to take something we already know a lot
about and use it to help raise money for Courtney’s medical bills.
Participants will enlist
sponsors that will donate a pre-determined amount for every kick they
make. On the day of the event, participants will kick until they can’t
kick anymore!
There will be plenty of volunteers around to do the counting.
Trinity will provide food and fun for all participants, volunteers and
spectators.
Come on out and support one of our own!
